Raccoon

Raccoon Mania for Mama, started back in 2014 when Angel Jake was attacked and had a horrid fight with a pregnant mother Raccoon, at 4 am in the morning. since then, about a dozen sightings not worth of a post. This year alone we have seen them or pawprints of them about 5 times.

Sunday at 10:30 AM, mama was sitting in the back yard with her camera that doesn't work well, trying to figure out Why.

She heard a loud scream, several louder screams and the Oak tree in the backyard of our neighbor, she saw what looked like a small brown bear. she ran over to look up and there they were, making more baby raccoons. in Broad Daylight.

NO PHOTOS butt Never Fear! Mama has it Under Control.

the reason for the post is Mama has NEVER seen daylight sightings of these raccoons. The male looked exactly like the top left in collage. Maybe 30 pound or more. This one was the biggest she has ever seen and since they can live 25 years this must be the same couple from 2014 Full Grown.

There is no story here, Mama just wants it recorded because she is so afraid one of them will attack me, and I am not a fighter. The fight with Jake and the Female still makes her have nightmares. Daddy wacking him with the shovel to get him off of Jake, Jake snarling, Coon screaming. Daddy grabbed it by the tail and tossed over the fence and it came back and jumped on Jake again. Daddy had to kill it, Mama cried, she thinks Daddy did too but can't admit it,   and she kept waiting for Jake or daddy to get rabies. Nothing Happened YET! Dang those daggum Coons!

Not my turn BUTT

I know I am not supposed to post today, its not my turn. BUTT yesterday, at 4 am, Tuesday, April 11, 2023, I the Best Beau Boy EVER, went out the door with Daddy, and did my jaunt around the pool in the dark  A.M. and I raced into the corner behind the now full rain barrel and came out with

A baby raccoon. Mama did not get to see this, but she heard daddy say put it down and raced to the door.
Daddy told her I put it down, and came to him and it ran away. He said he missed most of it because by the time he turned on his flashlight, it was gone.
That means my Mama had to take a photo of the rain barrel, add me, add a baby racoon from picmonkey free photos and create a flashlight effect.
THE POINT IS I am the Best Dog EVER. I harm nothing. Daddy said the baby made no noise at all which means I carried it carefully, no biting, just like when I brought mama the baby possum last year.
Mama says this means the mama possum is still here, this is an old photo of the mama that lives in our yard. That is the daddy behind her. She was in our pine tree.

Racoon Dreams

Today is Nature Friday and what is more nature than Raccoons?

See these tracks? they are all the way around our pool. Racoons come during the night and drink, swim and wash their acorns they dig up in our yard.
The yard looks like a giant was jumping around on a pogo stick.
our yard is full of holes, and I am so worn out from tracking them, I have to sun myself to build my sniffing strength.

Dreaming of Racoons, can you feel/see my excitement????
go ahead and say it, I am nothing like my Angel Brother Jumpin Jake.

I don't know what she is talking about. Racoons NEVER come out in the Daylight or in Sunshine. I only here/see/smell them when its dark. We think we hear babies in the yard behind us.

Mama's Birthday Scare

Mama has been fussing for about a week that some critter was on the roof every night for 5 nights in a row rolling avocados like bowling balls. She said Squirrels don't eat at night, and it must be those damn dang Raccoons are back. The above photo is one of many she has taken in the past.
They come almost every year but did not come while big boy was here or in my first year here.
Daddy said it could be possums, squirrels or coons but we haven't seen the coons for 3 years.
Mama said whatever is doing it I wish them dead. She really did not mean that, she just gets grumpy when someone wakes her up, Like clockwork, at exactly 2:15 am every morning for 5 nights.

She has a problem, if someone, even ME wakes her up she can't go back to sleep and she gets really grumpy.
On Mama's birthday, Monday, the bowling game woke her up, but she went back to sleep and at
3:15 I woke her up dancing in place and my stomach was making loud noises which means hurry mama, I have to eat grass and throw up because Daddy gave me a piece of steak fat.
She Says I am not allowed to eat FAT because I always wake HER up and it means she is outside in the dark waiting for me to throw up. That usually takes about 20 minutes.
We went back in the house and Daddy came down the hall and even if I have just come back inside, HE has to take me out and walk us once around the pool. This is written in House Rules.
Mama goes to brush her teeth and put drops in her red eyes and hears HISSNG and Daddy yelling
DROP IT BEAU! STOP! hiss hiss growl growl
COME ON IN THE HOUSE HE YELLS.
by this time Mama is outside saying in a calm sweet voice. Shut UP! its 4 am.
I was racing and bouncing, and Daddy said the word
Raccoon.  Mama walked closer and said Firmly,
Beau! Come! and I did and daddy started fussing because I did not mind him but did mind her.
She once again said come in the house the neighbors are sleeping.
We got in the house and Mama said
What happened?
It seems I now have a new Nickname. Coon Hound.
Daddy said a half-grown raccoon attacked Beau, and he grabbed him and shook him and put him down. the Raccoon did the 3 times. Each time I shook him and put him down, then Daddy told Mama he was yelling at the coon to get out of the yard.
No one was hurt, I did not kill the juvenile coon and Mama got to play in PicMonkey so you could see what happened.
These guys are nasty tempered when scared.
I was not scared, I just looked at the coon, like what is wrong with you, stop that. I did not bark or do anything but shake that fool like a rag doll.
They don't run up the tree or out of the yard, they fight

Wed Episode!

Wed at 5 AM I said to Mama, let me out please!  It's sign language and a few wooos... paws touching arms, woooooo woooooo nudging with my head. It means time for a poop Mama.

She opened the door and I nearly knocked her down rushing out and then Mama her screeching and screaming and crying and stepped out to see Me  be attacked by a half grown raccoon, who was making all the noise.

Mama yelled Beau Come! BOOBOBBBBBBBBB! Beau COME! BOBBBBBOBBBBBBBB!

on the second Come I came and she put me inside and went to see why BOBBOBBBBBBBBB did not Come on Command.

OF COURSE! He was in the bathroom and could NOT come.

I went out to POOP but Daddy left for the YMCA Pool and Mama had been outside to find 2 babies in the tree one crying one still screeching and one dead on the ground.

I had to wait to do my bidness until 6:30 when daylight came, the coons left the yard and daddy came home. She told me about the raccoon attack by a MAMA coon that was horrid a few years ago with Jake.

The raccoons first showed up in our yard in 2014 SEE HERE again in 2015, 2016 which was a horrid fight with Jake and the Mama who would not stop attacking Jake, bob Grabbed her by the tale and flung her over the fence and she came back up and over and attacked again. She did not survive.

Mama said the Mama racoon must be dead because she did not come when they called.

Now as far as we know, two of them are still out there some where and when she takes me out, i have to wait while she turns on the FLOODLIGHTS and goes out with a flashlight and checks all corners of the yard and up in the trees.

She clears the yard and I have no idea WHY because I did a great job of it. Since she was NOT IN THE MOOD to take pics of the little devils I leave you with this one of me with a teaser of what is to come.

What I Did On Mothers Day

I went out with Daddy at 4 AM, our usual morning outing. We ate breakfast at 6 and I saw Mommy point at her Tablet that sits on the breakfast bar and say LOOK!
I LOOKED and OH NO!
LOOK what's LOOMING out there!
She walked to the door and said it is drizzling and I paid no attention, since that is not one of my WORDS.
We walk at 6:40 now, with the time change. We wait for daylight because of CRITTERS who wander at daybreak.
Mama said to Daddy,
If we are going to walk, we have to hustle, ITS coming.
Daddy said lets do it, but it is still no daylight.
Mama said, we gotta go now.
Mama has been holding my leash this week, because Daddy's arm is out of whack.
She harnessed me up, we walked out through the gate,
AND MY EARS WENT UP, and MY Face Said ALERT!

Mama said STAY, Daddy Said What?
 Mama Said LOOK AT HIM!
Then we all three Spied at the Same Time
THE RACCOON across the Street that took off running away from us.
I GAVE a forward Leap and ONE BIG ROARING BARK!
Mama did fine, I did fine. She was READY because she read my ears!
She said a firm STAY! and I DID!
I stayed and watched that coon and the whole time we walked in the rain, they both kept telling me what a Good Boy I am and I got Venison Treats.
I Hope we see a raccoon every day.
But Mama doesn't.
As Mama types this, that storm is coming and I am practicing  my WHINING!
I HATE STORMS, so does Mama, we huddle together until it is gone.

Raccoon again

do you think we can go back and play with the raccoon?

I was a good boy!   Wed morning, on our walk, we approached the same yard, the same turnaround spot on our walk, and Mama screamed

OH NO! that Silly Raccoon is trapped in the trash can again..... The lid on the big green trash can was flopping up and down, and thumping and thumping. I froze in the SOMETHING IS THERE Postion. Mama forgot to take photos AGAIN...

This time they did not walk me home and drive back to rescue the raccoon... Mama held my leash, wrapped the end around her wrist, and the leash around the her body and braced herself.

Daddy walked over, opened the can, dumped it over and out ran the silly coon.... Mama was Shocked. I stood there and calmly watched it walk away, did not pull, did not yank, did not move...  I got SIX treats...  four for being a good boy and two to make me turn towards home. I wanted to just stay and watch....

Blog Sharing

Big Boy agreed to give me time on his blog today and he is taking the day off.
Early AM Tuesday, on the way to the YMCA, in the dark, I turned onto a street and Bob said look out, and there in front of us was the cutest sight I have seen in ever and ever.

A Family of Raccoons in the middle of the street. Mama and Daddy and FIVE babies.. the smallest babies I have seen.

They were no bigger than a small cat. Above is the size they were, below is what their faces looked like in the bright lights of my car.
I did not get photos, these are from the internet.

the parents and 4 siblings raced to my right and one baby went back to the left. I was terrified to move even slowly because the lone baby was frozen at the side of the street.
We made it past him and they were safe for now..
it was a wonderful heart melting moment.

Racoons and Coffeepots OH MY!

Hi, I do a lot of sleeping.... this is what I do while daddy cleans the pool. My new parents wondered if I could bark, I barked once at the 2 raccoons in our yard, Really Loud and chased them up the tree. Mama FREAKED out... that was a few days ago.

Mama here... we  had a surprise wake up this am. at 3:30. Big Boy dove off his chair and raced down the hall into the kitchen whining. No Barking! but frantic running, I followed, and heard a loud scary noise. I had forgotten to put the lid down on the coffee pot and when it came on, instead of the gurgle it was sounded like a dog with whooping cough, a big dog.

he did not bark, but now we know we will know if something makes a noise. of coursed deaf Bob slept through it. Then today while eating lunch Big Boy Barked a Booming Bark! Yowsa! is he loud, raced to the front door and window. NOTHING we could see or hear, but we know he can and will bark. He doesn't bark if someone knocks on the door.
