| Photo taken one hour after surgery on 5/3/2017 |
Two years ago, Jake had a small size of a BB tumor on lower right lid. It grew and grew, May of 2016 the vet said we need to remove the growth, I will have to take part of the lid. cost 719.00. We refused the surgery not because of cost but Jake is OLD and twice with other dogs his age, they had surgery and were never the same. Max almost died from the anesthesia at 12. Fast forward a year, the thing covered his eye, then he kept pawing at it until it was hanging out and down. At the annual this past Wed. I asked to see the vet we love, he is old school, and saved Jake as a puppy. He is not young and new and by the book. (see tab Jakes story above)
I said to the vet, we don't want to put him under to do the surgery, Bob says if his dad was alive he would just hold him down and cut it off... The vet said, I can do that. And I will do that. He came back with scissors, put deadening drops in Jakes eye, two assistants held his head, while I tried not to cry, and snip snip snip and it was gone. He had his annual with bloodwork and all his shots and surgery and was done in 15 minutes.
The vet said Jake is amazing. he said the first snip he did not know what was coming, but the 2nd and 3rd he did and he never even flinched. It gone and will grow back in a year or 2 but vet said, if it grows back I will snip it again.... that was the first miracle. the 2nd was the fact he charged us NOTHING. it was included in the annual exam/shots..... and Jake is so happy, he can see and no big marble hanging out of his eye. It is not a malignant tumor but a common one in older dogs.
