Beau Update from Vet visit Oct 1, 2025

Last night, while watching TV, I saw Bob's hand through the bed rails and Beau's nose as close to Daddy as he can get, in Daddy's seat on the sofa and I felt sad and happy at the same time. Bob has now been in the hospital bed in living room, more than 9 weeks and had his 3rd infusion for CIDP. He is better than he was 9 weeks ago and better than he was 2 weeks ago, which is good news.

I woke up today to a letter from his Vet, from the blood work done on Oct 1, 2025. I am posting this on my blog also because Beau only post updates here. We had to combine because Caregivers can't take care of two blogs.

Beau will be 12 next week and has been on gabapentin since Nov of 2021. he had a bad diagnosis, and we thought he would never walk off leash again. He has walked well for 3 years and is still good to Go. Vet started him on Meloxicam on Oct 1 because he said Beau could not get in the car because he was in pain from arthritis in his hips and back legs. One week later he is acting like a puppy again.

. The News is so good, I cried while reading the email to Bob. He has no clue why I was crying...but you will KNOW.

to me, manateevetclinic

Sandra and Robert, Beau's blood work has been returned and reviewed and, overall, matters continue impressively well. In essence, his entire panel has been returned as being completely normal and good. Now, granted, there's a singular, mildly-elevated value that represents kidney function; but it was present in '23 and then absent in '24 and now it's back. Nothing about the kidneys have changed in that time and I'm inclined to believe that the value we see "oh so mildly elevated" is a non-issue. Beyond that, his heart worm test and fecal exams were negative. Bottom line, Beau continues to impress and I believe I can, with some confidence, yet say that his future looks bright. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, Dr. Doyens

Beau in need of POTP

Beau, Saturday morning of 3/16/2024
I am not feeling well. Mama will tell you the story.

Wed 3/13/2024, at Just after midnight, Beau came to my side of the bed whining, and slapping his head on the bed, which is dog speak for get up and let me out. this happens once in a while, when he eats something that doesn't agree and he eats grass and throws up and goes back to bed.

This time he ate grass and ate grass and paced. He paced and paced and I followed him, for five hours, his stomach was squealing and he could not throw up and I was afraid of bloat. I put my clothes on and told Bob i was taking him to the ER. He said before you do that, lets walk him to the corner and back. the three of us walked slowly for 15 minutes, very slowly and we stepped in the house and he went to the back door and threw up a huge pile of phlegm.

I followed him around the back yard, a new thing I do because he has started eating his own poop.. He was drinking water every hour and had 3 bowls of water in the five hours. He peed and pooped and came in an collapsed on the floor and slept for 3 hours with out moving, then asked for his breakfast, ate that and went back to sleep and slept all day and all night Thursday.

He got up to eat, pee and poop and right back to sleep.

Friday he did the same thing, eat and sleep and do his business and we thought it must have been something he ate.

Saturday morning, at 1:30 am, he woke me up and went out ate grass, threw up the grass and a little phlegm.

He has  no pain, sleeps well, eats well, normal. Walks but is much slower.

Saturday early he had mucus skin on his poop ,like  a sausage has on it. This is normal once in a while.

We are watching him and his poop and the silly guy that is such a good dog, is learning how to sneak his poop.

To add to them mystery, and might be the problem, I saw him pick something up, grabbed his jaws and pried them open and it was a 2 inch turd, hard as a brick, I got it out of his mouth, with my fingers and then realized it was either possum or coon turd. OV VEY!

I looked it up and him eating that is more dangerous than his own poop and also a danger to us. I wish I had not researched it.

The kicker is, a lady stopped when we were walking and said Beaus sister died last week from cancer. Cancer is of course on the list of 10 thngs that have these symptoms, which has me in a tither. Some of you might remember we met the woman when she stopped and said is that BEAU? did you get him from Manatee Shelter? turned out her sister had Beaus sister.  I wanted to scream if you knew he was in a shelter why didn't you get him out.

Beau is insisting I show you St Patrick Day creations from 2022 today because I don't feel like messing with it.

Next step if any of this happens again is of course The Vet.

How lucky we are to have each other, Beau and his Mama.

Vet Visit

I asked mama to find a photo that would describe how I felt, when we got back from the vet visit yesterday. She said how do you feel, I will find the perfect photo and add you to it.  I said, Mama I feel kind of dizzy, like my world has spun out of control. She said I just happen to have a crazy photo that I took and have no idea what happened.   It is a picture of Christmas trees.

she hit the Jack Pot! I felt all in a whirl because at the Vet Office, the Doc was the same but everyone in the office is gone, replaced by STRANGERS. The girls that took my blood, could not get it to come out, they stuck me 87 times.  No, Beau, it was only 5 times, ... The lady who checks us in and takes all mamas money is gone, even the doctor's wife is gone.

The new girls almost dropped me, they almost let me slide off the table and Mama got up to nuzzle my head because I was scared. I love the vet I love all the people, butt these people were not only strangers, but strange.

The vet said whatever you are doing for Beau, keep doing it, he is fine and lost 4 pounds. He said Beau is always such a good boy. We think he was embarrassed at how his new staff worked.

When we got in the car, Mama said, I think his wife left him and took all the people with her. We need to find out where they went and follow them. Daddy said it looks to me like, he is saving money by hiring people who are in TRAINING. and they need a lot more training.

the thing is, 4 weeks ago, they were all there, when Mama picked up my meds.

OOPS! did you think I forgot to report on my health?

I AM FINE... More than fine

Mama is hurting, oops, her bank account is hurting, not her. 359.00  all is well, now we wait a week for results of the 169.00 CBC blood test....

PS as we drove away from the stranger in the strange office, Daddy said so what is the final bill? mama told him, I am not allowed to say what he said.  Mama said don't worry about it, I added up all Beaus Food and Meds and Vet bills for a year and we only spend about 150 a month on him and he is worth MILLIONS... so what is MILLIONS?

Of we disapear its because mama is going to search the public records to see if the doctor got a divorce, or if aliens came and zapped all his staff members up into the stars or planets. She asked the lady at the desk if Shea was gone and she said yes. She did not say her name. Mama new this because she called for meds and got a new person and picked up meds from new person... its a mystery.

AM UPDATE! Good News!

See my three balls? they have been laying there since Noon on Saturday. I am ashamed to say I yelped each time I tried to pick one up. Today I picked one up at 8:30 am. I was scared to touch one because each time I tried it shocked me and I yelped.
I touched it with my paw, no shock.
I touched it with my nose and jumped back. walked away and
went back and picked it up. then I laid down and chewed on it like I always do.
Then I started to run in circles and BEG and BEG to do a ball game.  Daddy wanted to do a couple of soft throws. Mama YELLED at him to go outside.
He is cutting the grass now. I am laying on her feet while I dictate to her.
What did you say Mama? You want to talk? Go ahead.
This is what 70 hours of Rest and Baby Aspirin did.

Mama here trying to say a long story short

5 PM last evening, Beau dropped his ice chip on the floor and bent forward to get it and did not yelp!
The first sign he was healing.
Today he can bend forward and pick up what is on the floor!
Halleluiah!
I treated him with baby aspirin and total rest except for his morning walk. he slept for 3 days.
Answers to some of your questions.

We have 13 Vets under 3 miles from us and maybe 20 in 10 mile radius.
It was Monday, all pets get sick on week ends.
Our population is 368,000 and almost doubles in winter months from winter residents fleeing the cold and they bring their pets. During summer there would be no problem at any of the vets.
If it had been a true emergency, they would have taken him in in front of all the others.

We have 4 Pet ER and we went to two of them, 3 hour wait.

We were 99 percent sure it was the neck muscle, Saturday noon he did a tumble and roll catching the ball and after that could not bend his head. we knew it was fall related, and prayed it was a strain and not a pinched nerve.
I looked up natural muscle relaxers, and 2 were NSAIDS and REST, canine and humans.
When we started the baby asperin he no longer whimpered getting up and did all his normal things except the lean down to floor
We raised his food bowls from the height of 8 inches to 10 and he could eat and drink fine.
KB thanks for suggesting we leave it that way. we will.
The good news was he was so sick he did not want the orange thing or to play with it.
That ball is his life. Now that he feels better it will be hard to hold him down.
PEE SSS   Beau sat in the car for an hour at the walkin closet like a person, watching what was going on.
I took him this morning on my second walk with me because missing 5 ball games a day left him with not enough exercise. He was ecstatic. His first ever walk with Just Mama.
He was an angel
Last but not least.
THANK YOU EVERYONE OF YOU for all the love and hugs and suggestions and for CARING about Beau and his parents. We felt your love and still do.
love from Ball Brain and His Mama
I used my cell phone avatars and Beaus face in Pickmoney to make the above.. Reminder March 2nd we celebrate Doctor Seuss Birthday.. Put on you hats and get ready to post

NOON update on Beau

Mama Here with an update. I spent the whole morning, on phone and in car trying to find a vet to see Beau. His vet is booked to Thursday. We have been considering finding a new one. We decide to try today

Out of 13 vet offices within 6 minutes of our house, no one could see him today. 2 of the six are walkin clinics, having appointments every day but 3 weeks out for that and walkin means sitting in car and waiting until they can fit you in. One said maybe 3 hours to come back in the afternoon and see if it was better and the other said come down, call us, we will come fill out paperwork at yur car and call you when we can fit you in.

We drove in and there were 6 cars waiting we made 7, 4 cars had dogs waiting before us. I called and she said we will come out soon to fill out forms and I will put you on the walk in list. I said i filled the forms on line and brought them with me. She said Great I will be right there to get them. ONE hour later, no sign of her and only 2 dogs had come out in one hour.

I called her and said we were leaving and she said I am sorry, you ARE on the waiting list, We left. went to another walk in, there was no room in the parking lot, and I went in and there were 17 people smashed together i chairs like sardine in a can. 17 dogs waiting.. We left.

The temp is 82 F in the shade and in the parking lot was 102, the ac was not helping much in the car and it was to hot to stand in the parking lot. no people allowed in side. we did not like that. we are having a heat wave

SO we will wait and see... Beau is in no pain unless he bends down to the right towards the floor. He is suffering because he can't pick up his beloved ball, but is in no pain. eats and does all things from walk to poop and pee and sleeps most of the time. It breaks my heart over that silly ball. we will figure he is healed when he doesn't yelp. even though he knows it will hurt he has twice tried to pick it up.

I will not be posting or emailing or doing much tomorrow unless their is an update. My brain doesn't function when my baby is  not well.

5 AM Update on Beau

I laid just like this on my daddy's lap from 6 to 10:30 IN THE MORNING.
Mama gave me baby aspirin at 6, I ate breakfast at 6 not 5, I can't put my head down to the bowl or water dish and I can't pick up orange thing.
I tried to pick Orange thing up at 10 but I yelped and could not.
Daddy got up two times to get the circulation going in his legs.
We ate lunch, and the human piece of food that fell out of my mouth, mama had to pick them up for me.
then we went out by the pool and I laid in the shade
then in the sun
then daddy massaged me
then mama massaged me
I laid in shade
I laid in sun

I can walk and squat and lay down and get up, but I can't bend forward or put my head down.
I can't pick up my ball, I want my orange thing, I tried to pick it up to put in my 5 am food bowl and yelped 3 times, like somebody kicked me.
Mama said it time to call the vet today.
Mama thinks I have pulled muscle, it does hurt unless I move it down.
We all slept all night, which means  I am better than I was 24 hours ago

Shadow Shot Sunday

UPDATE at 7 am, I need POTP, something is wrong, and I am whimpering and yelping when I lean forward. Mama thinks it is my right paw or shoulder, but I can't talk to tell her.
I woke up 3 times during the night whimpering and now I yelped really loud. Mama had to hold my bowl of food up high because I yelp when I lean forward.

Judging by the position of the sun and the angle of the  shadows, I must be sleeping in the daytime and I am living in the shadow of the moon Mom!

By the way, have you all noticed I sleep in the sun now? a lot!
The Shadow Knows! brahahahahahahahahahaha  Are you old enough to rememer The Shadow Knows?
