Nature Friday with Beau and Mama

Mama was inside, I was outside, same old story! I looked this way and that way and ended up
looking in the door again.
this is NOT the story today!

One day last week, Mama decided she was tired of waiting for it to get daylight and if we went before daylight, she could avoid the dang dog next door. We left at 7 instead of 7:10. It was dark, not dark-dark, we could see with streetlights.
She was also trying to avoid the 7:15 rush of people going to work. She has been walking me the safe-from-traffic street and I don't love it as much as the traffic-way. She let me make my favorite turn, the one that makes me happy, the one city block where we walk in the street and jump on the curb when the cars come flying by. I do a lot of the STAY position while they pass.

We got to the safe sidewalk, and we heard dogs barking. Lots of barking. the street we started down every dog both inside and outside was barking.

Mama stopped; she said I think we better go back; something is not right. They never bark like that.I had no idea all those dogs live on that street; we never hear them or see them.

WE Heard Them!
I stood my ears UP! they went Forward, my head was on alert, by tale went Stiff. Mama sucked in her breath, and we turned back the other way, we walked as quickly as Rudolph driving his Sleigh.

A coyote howled, then another, the dog barking went WILD, a 3rd voice joined the howls! Ahoooooooooooooh Ahooooooooooooooooooooooh. Ahoooooooooooo!

I had no idea Mama could walk that fast, she was walking me like we were being chased.
No, we never saw them, and we are thankful the barking dogs told us they were there.

We do have to say, 3 coyotes baying is beautiful harmony by nature..

National Dog Day

Mama says it is National Dog Day today and she wanted me to tell you Daddy saw a wild Dog, better known as a Coyote. Florida has coyotes in all 67 counties in the state. Mama has seen one while she walked Big Boy, back in 2018,HERE and one walking with me April of 2022 HERE

Daddy said the one he saw was as big as a German Shepherd and it stopped in the road and stared when Daddy stopped and rolled his window down. Daddy, said go on home, before you get run over and it just stood and stared and watched daddy drive. off.
Mama says all dogs are descended from wolves and coyote and wild dogs, like the dingo in Australia.

Coyote  a few blocks from our house

In our house we love All Dogs, wild or tame or even the one she had to stomp her feet and yell at this week because she was trying to attack me. the good news is, Princess, the neighbor's dog is a pit mix cur and runs away if Mama yells.
Mama was yelling when she told daddy that #@$%^ Princess got after us again this morning.

Coyotes In Florida, this link has every question you might ask about coyotes.

Adrenaline Rush

There we was just a-walkin' down the street, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
She looked good (looked good), she looked fine (looked fine)
Beau looked good, Beau looked fine and I nearly lost my mind/

When Walking Beau I scan for possums, cats, ducks, dogs, squirrels, rabbits and crazy drivers in cars.

We were 5 houses from home, when my scanning picked up what at first looked like a running dog,

It was fleeing like the devil was chasing it, coming right at us, about 8 houses away, same side of the road as we were and coming fast. 3 houses away it went up in the grass and I quick walked Beau to the other side and went up behind a car that was parked in the grass. I wanted to let it pass us.

As I stepped to the hood of the car, my heart was racing like an adrenaline rush, and a woman stepped out her front door and was shocked to see me and a big dog by her car door.

She stopped and I said Coyote and turned and pointed.
we watched as he went 4 more houses, and fled between two houses, I knew it was all fenced and we waited until he fled around the house and back out and headed back the way he came.
He was terrified, more than I was, I think.
The woman said who owns that dog? I said that is a coyote. She said NO, we have coyotes?
I said yes we do, and that is one right there.
She went to work, we followed a long way behind him and watched as he turned down another street.

Below at the bottom,  is a Florida Coyote and is close to what he looked like. he was running so fast he was a blur and my heart broke for him. Most houses are fenced and he was trying to get back home because they sleep during the day and run at night.

I came home and ask Google Girl to tell me what to do if we meet him again.
I found this link that has a video that shows what to do if you meet a dog.

I also found this info but forgot to save the link.

What to do and What Not to do, if you meet a coyote.

Don't Run, Do NOT scream

The first thing to do if you can is take cover behind something. A trash can, a car, anything to give it a chance to leave. I did that without knowing, it was instinct.

They only attack if something is wrong with them.
Haze the animal, by standing tall, act strong, stomp food and yell hyah

Do not hit the coyote.
If it does go to attack, grab anything you can find to bash it. Trash can, what ever.
they are fearful.

There are coyotes in 49 of our states, they are everywhere. The best thing to do is don't walk alone in the dark, they sleep during the day and hunt from dusk to dawn.

We have not seen him again. The last time I saw one was with Big Boy about 2 plus years ago.
Another neigbor said they live at the country club golf course, which is about 4 blocks from us.

Florida Coyote.

Florida coyote found on Internet, Above song using the lyrics from Dow Wah Diddy, by Manfred Mann.

As I typed There we were waling down the street this song POPPED in my head. Click on link to hear it. A blast from the past.
