1.that black animals may be more difficult to photograph, leading to less attractive listings.
2.More recently, people speculate that adopters may be seeking more photogenic cats.
3. superstition (i.e., black cats symbolize bad luck) and negative associations of black cats with witchcraft or evil.
4. Black cats may also be seen as both less friendly and less playful, which could potentially be due to difficulties in reading their facial expressions.
5. researchers speculate that racial prejudice may also underlie the black cat bias.

I did not know these reasons. Know why cats do not have facial expressions like dogs do? They do not have the muscles in their faces or foreheads to do it.
That’s interesting. We had a dog with black fur. Her fur glistened in the sun.

Yay for black cats (and dogs)! Interesting research there - one reason I heard on more than one occasion is that it is harder to spot fleas and ticks on dark coloured animals, which, for some folk apparently, is a thing... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
It is true they’re not as photogenic, but that doesn’t mean they’re not sweet.
I had heard about people not wanting black cats because of superstition. Not wanting one because it's not photogenic seems like the dumbest reason ever though

We love black cats and dogs with Millie being in that club. It's a shame that they are often the ones overlooked in the shelters.
