Mama and I are thankful we have seen opossums run across the road in front of us on our break of day walks,
We are thankful we have seen them run over the power line over our head while walking.
We are thankful we have seen them often running on top of our backyard fence, through our backyard fence and climbing over our fence.
Last week we saw one in a totally different way.
Just as Mama and I reached the 4 way stop signs, on our morning walk, we saw an opossum under the giant banyan tree. she was about to dart across the street, it was still dark, not quite daybreak. Mama said, Look Beau she is headed home because Opossums are nocturnal and it's rare to see them out after daybreak, let's stop and stand still and see what she will do. Mama said that is the same one that comes in our backyard. She lives in the neighbors overgrown back yard, she and her family. We see her a lot, because our beginning of our walk is on her pathway to her home and our home.
We stood watching to see what she would do, and she would look at us, and look away, look and look away. Suddenly she made her decision and darted to the bottom of the white fence. She would run a few feet and look over her shoulder at us, run another few feet and check us out again. Mama was laughing out loud. She reached the end of the fence and darted into a tall green hedge, we saw her nose and eyes peeking out as us as we continued our walk. I was a good boy; I do not chase critters.
Butt, I was..... to be continued

What fun this must have been!! Good thing you have them close by, as they will eat so many insects. I'm waiting to find out if you saw the babies.
What Beau? You don't chase critters? Why ever not?
Toodle-oo!
Nobby (who can't wait to find out what happened next).
You are a good boy Beau! I have only ever seen an opossum one time. They are cute little things. Loved this post!

Oh my, now you have us on tenterhooks! Possums are fun until they are living in your roof cavity. Trust me, I know... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Hello, Beau
I am glad you are so well behaved around those strange critters.
I have seen some in our yard and neighborhood.
HUGS, have a happy day!
How I wish Copper would not chase critters...
That was sweet of you and your mom to let that possum go on her way and not be too worried about you, Beau. Now you have us in suspenders to read the rest of the story.
WOW...a nature friday cliff hanger...or would that be fence hanger?? BOL We can't wait to hear how it ends!
Thanks to your Mama for all the beautiful opossum edits too!!
xoxo,

Mostly I've just seen opossum squished in the road.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of your story.
Hi Beau! Are you sure your momma doesn't moonlight for the Bradenton PD as a sketch artist?
The first time I saw an opossum here in Tom's workshop (at the bottom of the trash can) I thought it was a rat!
You're a most excellent good boy, and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of your story!
Many years ago when Mom was brave enough to walk two dogs at the same time, Angel Thunder and Angel Ciara kept pulling her to the big evergreen tree at the edge of our garage. They both insisted on sticking their heads under the tree and sniffing. Much to Mom's utter shock, they came out with a possum, one with the head and the other with the tail. Mom yelled, DROP IT and they did!!! Good dogs Stupid possum just meandered very slowly across the driveway to safety:)

You are so good Beau, chasing critters is not a good thing.
You are such a sweet boy! Kaitlin's Zoe wouldn't have been so calm.
That as quite an adventure. I think I would have headed home when I saw it. Sounds like she was afraid of you two. That is wonderful that you don't chase them.
