What does Kahu mean in Hawaiian pet owner?
In Hawaiian, you don't call yourself your pet's owner.
You are their Kahu.
Kahu has many meanings, among them Guardian, protector, steward, beloved, attendant. Basically, someone entrusted. with the safe keeping of something precious, something cherished.
The Hawaiian word "kahu" is used to refer to someone who has a pet, rather than the term "pet owner." This word has a deep spiritual meaning, as it implies that the person and their pet are connected on a spiritual level. " Kahu" can be translated as "guardian" or "protector."

This is so interesting. And a much more wonderful and descriptive word than owner. Because we are all so much more than owners of our pets. Can't wait for the next post!

Oh that's a great word (and concept). We like it a lot. Thanks for introducing us to it!
I like that. It's much nicer than saying pet owner.
Hello Beau,
There were times I thought the roles were reversed our furbabies owned us.
I like the name and meaning of Kahu. You look so sweet when you are napping.
HUGS, have a happy day!
That is a wonderful word sweet Beau. We never use the word owner here, you can own family.
That's interesting because in NZ Maori kahurangi is used for precious or treasure
We love learning this new word and think it's meaning is perfect!
Beau you are lucky to have MS as your Kahu
Hugs Cecilia

I love this, you and Mama are definitely Kahu.
I've a new favorite word! Does it sound boastful to say I'm our girls' Kahu? (Now, I need to find out the correct pronunciation.)
Yes! I hate the terms "dog owner" and "cat owner".
