Two years ago, My Mama and Daddy, went to 3 shelters, looking for an older, black dog. They are older, really older and needed a dog that fit their lifestyle.
They looked for black dogs because they are the hardest to be adopted from the shelters.
Mama said it could be because black dogs look scary OR that black dogs are hard to see in dark kennels, and are not noticed as much.
I had been in a shelter 3 times, and was in the office of the adoption coordinator because I had been attacked by a dog that a lady drove up and when they did not have room, because of overcrowding, she threw the leash down and drove off. That dog was so upset he ran over and jumped on me while I was walking with a volunteer.
The Lady went down the hall telling my Pawrentz she had just the dog, 5 and 1/2 years old and Black.
she opened the office door , below borrowed from the internet.
and when it opened The middle photo below is what my pawrentz saw, they both said LOOK AT THOSE EYES and I spoke to them in eye speak
and after I climbed on Mamas lap on the bench she sat down on, and did so more eye speak with her and Daddy, they took me home.
They promised me I would never go back to a shelter again, 3 times was enough. And now I am 7 and 1/2 and have had the life of a King.
They did not notice my STAR until mama took this photo when we got home from the shelter.
I became and will always be their STAR.
I am very ill now, diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, and they still love me and feed me boiled liver and pumpkin and ride me because I can't walk anymore.
This is a link to the Shelter I came from and right now today they have 23 black dogs waiting.
look below, that is the map of shelters that are no more than 7 miles from my home.
they are all full to the maximum.
Clear the Shelters, Spread the Word.
There are too many pets in shelters. #SeeThe Light
The shelter was scary and loud and cold and hot and I was attacked by a bad dog. There are MILLIONS of dogs and cats in shelters. Some shelters even have rats and rabbits and birds, it seems many adopt pets and then don't want them any more... Also, if you want a special breed of dog, there is a rescue for every breed. Just search for them.
Today we join with #RemmeberMeThursday and ask any and all who want a cat or dog, to #SeeTheLight and adopt a shelter pet. We are thankful for all 5 of our rescue dogs, see the tabs above for the ones that are now angels over the RB Bridge..
We are joining RememberMeThursday annual event HERE

I remember ALL of this, and the details, too! It is getting so I am scared to visit, because I don't know what I will find. This post was a huge relief. I kind of look on Big Boy as OUR dog, our official blog dog. We have been with him and you through it all, the joys and the sorrows. And he is the best dog I have ever met, virtually or otherwise.
oooh we wish all people would look in the eyes of a dog , then no one would walk away without giving this pup a home ...

I too have been around for all your being here in Blogville, BB - and am sad with your pawrents that you have such an illness. I know that you couldn't have had a better final home and no matter what the days/weeks now bring, any sadness can only be fringed with the joy you have brought so many here... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Hello BB,
You are so cute, I love Black Dogs. I love all the dogs. I remember the day your Mama and Daddy brought you home. You are the perfect family now, I just wish you were not feeling so bad. HUGS, be happy.
It was a special day for all of you when they opened that door and there you were. It's sad that there are so many shelters and all so full.
BB. You have brought so much joy to us, through your Mama...we all love you bunches.
I agree, you've become the STAR of Blogland. Sick or not, we all love you soooo big, Big.
I think personal testimonies like your momma's do more to promote adoption than any paid adverts. "And she told a friend, who told a friend ..." Let's keep it going!
Today I posted about our Angel Little Bit. We got a black dog for the same reason. Best pup ever as Big Boy is to you.
Have a fabulous day. Healing scritches to Big Boy. ♥
You are so lucky your pawrents finally found you Big Boy. We came from a rescue group too and are very happy to be where we are now. Your pawrents sure have given you a great life. They sure do love you.
What a special day for you, your mama and you daddy! I'm so sorry you are sick but so glad they gave you such a good home and have taken such good care of you. They love you so much. I hope and pray you still have many good days ahead Big Boy.
BB what a beautiful love story. It is said dogs live in the moment...and I do hope this is true. The moment to found your furever home was the best moment of your life everything else was in the past.
Hugs to your peeps who love you as you love them.
Cecilia
You sure were in the right place at the right time BB. Adoptions are just the best and here's to many, many more...and then some. We love you sweet boy.
I am like Ginny - a little afraid to read. This was wonderful - more good memories. You didn't pick him - HE PICKED YOU!
What a pawfect match you and your Mama and Daddy are BB, we think you were put right in their path so they could take such good care of you!
Your folks didn't know it but they were looking exactly for you BB !
I remember that day so well. You and your parents found each other. So much love.
Oh BB, I am so very glads you found your pawrents! Cause we all got to meet you and know what FABulous doggies are at the shelters! Even though you are sick nows, you still bring so much joy to your peeps and all of us!
