This week is Be Kind to Animals Week and I have a story to tell you.
It is about a Calico Cat and
Our Hawk, the one who visits our yard a lot. He and His Missus,
eat a lot of birds and other critters. Mama took this photo last year.
Several weeks ago, on our break of day walk, we heard the screeching that means the hawk is hunting. Mama searched the sky, we turned the corner and there he was, sitting just like this on the top of the very tall light pole. He glanced over his shoulder at us, and went back to
staring at the roof on the house below him.
On the roof was the neighborhood calico cat. She was flat as a pancake, sprawled out with all four paws, still as death.
Mama started to scream at the hawk and wave her arms and tried to make him move. He just sat there screeching, knowing we could not reach him.
On our return route, the hawk was gone, the cat was no where to be seen.
We see her almost every day, she knows I will not hurt her and is unafraid. We think she is feral but not sure since we see her in four different yards.
The next day Mama said Oh Beau, Callie is Ok, there she is, look under the bush on the blue house.
She has been sighted for a couple of weeks, but yesterday something new had happened.
the blue house had added a beautiful Purple CAT HOUSE on their front porch by the door, and a bowl or two.
They must have heard the news it is be kind to animals' week.
Now Callie has a house and food/water source.
She is beautiful and healthy, and we hope safe.
We see 3 cats almost every day, but one house we know lets their Tuxedo out at night. Mama is not happy about that.

Maybe they found out about the hawk and gave her a safe place to hide??

I am very happy for Callie... That hawk was ambitious, going for a cat! Better watch out, Beau, in case he gets even bigger ideas!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
a story with a good end... so great... thanks to the blue house people...
So glad the cat didn't become lunch for the hawk. Although I do hope he found his dinner somewhere.
The animal kingdom itself can be kind, or it can be cruel ... our responsibility is to be kind. Too often that is forgotten, by too many it is ignored.
Kindness celebrated is wonderful!!
Hugs Cecilia
We're glad your calico friend is okay. It's too bad that she lives outside but at least someone is doing their best for her.
Big whew! For a moment there I was steeling myself; circle of life and all that.
Oh, big thanks for your mention of Rescued by Ruby. We watched it yesterday afternoon; I'm not sure but I strongly suspect I wasn't the only one with tears streaming down my face. (Happy ones, I mean.)
I am glad Callie is okay...sounds like she landed on her feet!
I never let my babies out at night or during the day either, unless they were on a leash and with me. We need to protect our babies.
Have a fabulous day and rest of the week. Scritches to Beau. ♥
I am so glad she has a home and can protect herself!
I'm glad the calico is okay. Those hawks feed on feral cats here. Fortunately our backyard has a low tree cover which mostly protects they from the hawkeye pierce!
Yay that Calico is alright, and I hope remains off the menu. I've worried about Xena (she's so much smaller than Lexi was) and the big hawks around here. The hubby laughs at me, but she's my baby.
I‘m so glad the story had a happy ending. ❤️
Weare really happy that the Mrs Calico cat has found a human sponsor and a little place to call her home. xxx mr T
I hope she stays okay. If I had a cat it would only be indoors.
Sandra, I am LOVING this!! I don't know how I missed this second blog of yours but I won't be missing it anymore!!!
What a great story!
