Bentleys Big Night Out

Today Bently Is Joining A Feburary Challenge to post stories that show goodness, kindness and caring on February Wednesday

We live 4 minutes from this Dollar General store and we wish we had been there a few days ago to meet Bentley.

Thank You, Bradenton Police Department for your kindness to Bentley.

Bradenton Police Officers responded to a call from the Dollar General on Manatee Ave. W. in reference to a giant dog that wouldn't leave.

Officers dispatched to the store found a 135-pound St. Bernard roaming the aisles of the store. According to the store manager, the plus-sized pooch walked through the front doors, “like he was dropping in to pick up a few things” and then meandered around, visiting the break room and stock room during his hours-long visit. The canine was courteous, and didn’t bother staff or shoppers while browsing, however at closing time the befuddled clerks weren’t quite sure what to do about their new co-worker, and they didn’t want to let him roam the streets at night.

After sizing up the situation, officers used a slip lead to guide the docile doggy outside, just in time for the somewhat panicked pet parent to arrive.

He explained that the dog, Bentley, is four years old, and an accomplished escape artist. The stealthy, albeit slow, St. Bernard merely walked through a broken gate and just kept going.

Bentley’s owner provided proof the dog was his - although officers declined to verify that he has a tattoo of the pup on his behind. Moreover, Bentley does have a microchip.

That is such a cute story. So glad that he was reunited with his human, and way to go to the officers of Bradenton Police Department.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story of kindness and caring! Bentley is quite something ... but your police department, and staff of the store he roamed for hours were amazing in their handling of the situation. Paws up to one and all.

That is soooo sweet. I'd have loved to see him strolling the aisles. He reminds me of that dog in the Chewy commercial.

Well isn't that a cute story. I wouldn't mind having a Bentley wander in to our store and come work with me for the day.

Probably a good thing you weren't there, Sandra, or you'd have you another dog, LOL! The police were great and so glad Bentley's owner came and got him. Bentley does look well taken care of.
