Beau Beaumont reporting to you from our back yard, Our Town, USA.
Sunday at noon, my pawrentz were outside watching me do my business, standing by the edge of the pool and staring up into the jungle garden behind our fence.
The noise was loud,
Mama pointed and said to da Dad,
Listen, The Hawk is HERE!
Shriek! Shriek!
Shriek!
Shriek!
They stared hard but could see nothing. Daddy said, I bet he is after the blue jay juveniles.

Mama Screamed,did you see that?
a Coopers Hawk flew right over their heads, and his was 4 feet at least,
both da pawrentz were yelling!
LOOK! LOOK! as the hawk soared over the pool, diving down and then up, up into the top of the avocado tree.
Mama screamed again LOOK LOOK,
A daddy BLUE JAY came screaming out of the tree and dove on the Hawk, behind him came the Mama Jay, yelling her head off, and one by one as we stared at the battle in the sky, 6 more Jays, a total of EIGHT, were diving and screaming at that hawk, he dropped down on the limb below,
Mama said why doesn't he fight back? He is huge and could eat them all.
Daddy said he can't, the jays know he can't spread those wings while in the tree.
All 8 of them sitting on limbs all around him yelling and screaming and the hawk just sat there. Daddy said they are safe as long as they don't fly out in the open.
Mama was screaming, Get Him Guys, Get that hawk!
In under 2 minutes, the Jay's Won the battle and the hawk left town.
Well, the hawk left our tree, we are sure he will come sneaking back.

We're glad the jay family was able to scare that hawk away. Our dad is always on the lookout for any hawks in our yard and will try to scare them away, so they don't take any of our beloved songbirds. Blue Jays make an excellent hawk deterrent system.
It always amazing me how back yard birds will gang up on a hawk trying to take advantage of them or their family.
Hawks are usually alone so I guess there is truth in the
saying 'safety in numbers."

Not fair! You live in a city and I live in the country and you get to see ALL this! Years ago I may have, but now with the drought almost all critters have disappeared.
Great reporting Beau. Very exciting. My humans warn me to stay out of sight when they see raptors, especially big ones that might carry off a cat (or so they say). No eagle would ever take you away would it? Paw smacks Mr T

That was some excitement indeed. I can hear your mom screaming. We have a Sparrow Hawk that shows up from time to time and all the birds disappear until he leaves.

Yes, those blue jays sure do take on those big birds, they are the MMA fighters of the bird population!
Wow! I've always hated blue jays, But the tables are turned on this one! Hubby laughs at me when I worry when I hear a hawk in our woods and fear for one of our 15 pounders.
Wow, that had to be something to see! I would have thought this story was going to go another way with the hawk getting a blue jay.
