Mama's Birthday Scare

Mama has been fussing for about a week that some critter was on the roof every night for 5 nights in a row rolling avocados like bowling balls. She said Squirrels don't eat at night, and it must be those damn dang Raccoons are back. The above photo is one of many she has taken in the past.
They come almost every year but did not come while big boy was here or in my first year here.
Daddy said it could be possums, squirrels or coons but we haven't seen the coons for 3 years.
Mama said whatever is doing it I wish them dead. She really did not mean that, she just gets grumpy when someone wakes her up, Like clockwork, at exactly 2:15 am every morning for 5 nights.

She has a problem, if someone, even ME wakes her up she can't go back to sleep and she gets really grumpy.
On Mama's birthday, Monday, the bowling game woke her up, but she went back to sleep and at
3:15 I woke her up dancing in place and my stomach was making loud noises which means hurry mama, I have to eat grass and throw up because Daddy gave me a piece of steak fat.
She Says I am not allowed to eat FAT because I always wake HER up and it means she is outside in the dark waiting for me to throw up. That usually takes about 20 minutes.
We went back in the house and Daddy came down the hall and even if I have just come back inside, HE has to take me out and walk us once around the pool. This is written in House Rules.
Mama goes to brush her teeth and put drops in her red eyes and hears HISSNG and Daddy yelling
DROP IT BEAU! STOP! hiss hiss growl growl
COME ON IN THE HOUSE HE YELLS.
by this time Mama is outside saying in a calm sweet voice. Shut UP! its 4 am.
I was racing and bouncing, and Daddy said the word
Raccoon.  Mama walked closer and said Firmly,
Beau! Come! and I did and daddy started fussing because I did not mind him but did mind her.
She once again said come in the house the neighbors are sleeping.
We got in the house and Mama said
What happened?
It seems I now have a new Nickname. Coon Hound.
Daddy said a half-grown raccoon attacked Beau, and he grabbed him and shook him and put him down. the Raccoon did the 3 times. Each time I shook him and put him down, then Daddy told Mama he was yelling at the coon to get out of the yard.
No one was hurt, I did not kill the juvenile coon and Mama got to play in PicMonkey so you could see what happened.
These guys are nasty tempered when scared.
I was not scared, I just looked at the coon, like what is wrong with you, stop that. I did not bark or do anything but shake that fool like a rag doll.
They don't run up the tree or out of the yard, they fight

Wow, you are really brave Beau. That raccoon had some nerve attacking you in your own yard. I'm trying not to giggle over the fact that you listened so well to your mom and not at all to your dad.

Hello beau,
You are the brave one, I am sure the raccoons have sharp teeth.
I hope they stay out of your yard, now that they may be scared of you.
My grand-dog Nibbles did the same thing to a squirrel, I had to make her drop the squirrel. HUGS, have a happy day!

I've heard/read/been told by vets that 'coons, foxes, and other critters...when they have no fear, and attack, they are most likely rabid! Hope Beau has no open wounds!!!!

They are cute, but very nasty. We had them on our boat once and it was scary. Our Angel Little Bit didn't like them on her boat one bit.

Have a fabulous day, Beau. My best to your mom. ♥

We're glad to hear the story has a happy ending with you going in the house and leaving that little raccoon outside, Beau. That sure was a scary encounter and we hope it never happens again.

"You ain't nothing but a coon dog . . . "
That is one way to get rid of a coon!

Oh Beau, you're so very good ... with a temperament akin to a hostage negotiator.

But what a fright! That must have been hanging onto my subconscious, because sometime in the middle of the night I started fretting. Macie could probably hold her own, but I'm afraid little Grace wouldn't stand a chance against a coon.

Keep away from those things Beau, you could get rabies from even a scratch!

Wow, good thing you're a big dog, Beau. I once had a dog, much smaller than you, fighting with a raccoon. It was not a pretty sight and I had to save my dog. No I didn't kill the raccoon, but I made it leave.

Oh, I forgot, I used my good old waterhose trick. I have used it on my Doberman, back in the day, when he had a cat in his mouth that he was going to kill, I have used it most recently to remove rattlesnakes from my yard without harming them. Water is a good weapon. The raccoon didn't like it one bit.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I don't like critters in the yard. I hope it stays away. Stay safe Beau.

The neighbors were sleeping. We think the word "were" is correct here, BOL! Did you think that coon was a toy, Beau? Or did you just not want to kill it? Maybe it will stay away now and let your Mama sleep. We know what it's like to wake up a Mama in the middle of the night....*shudder* XOX X, R, L, C
