Angel Baby Girl said I forgot to tell you about the huge mistake I made a few weeks after we rescued her.
She was doing so well and had lost her fear of us. She spent her days digging holes to China and also trying to dig out under the fence.
I am not sure where I got the info because this was Before Internet, but someone said to put pennies in a can and tape the hole shut. Armed with a cola can rattle, the next time she started digging I came up behind her and shook the can back and forth and this one thing flipped her back to FEAR and we had to start over teaching her we would not hurt her. It took several weeks to get past the rattled can.
Cooper not only solved the running away but the digging under the fence problem. Unfortunately, he could not stop her from digging holes to lie in.
We just let the plants die and loved her. Dirt and all. Cooper was a calm and sweet and kind, gentle dog and so loving to humans and canines and he put up with her from day one. He was our first senior dog adoption.
He was 7 when we rescued him and Big was 5 and Beau was 7. Adopt Senior Pets, they deserve it.

Your adoptions were sure blessed...to have been adopted by you and Bob. I tell Roger that our grandpups, and even used to say these about our pets...they are treated better than a lot of children.

Great decision -- to let the plants perish and sweet Baby Girl enjoy her comfort zone. Gosh, her eyes were so beautiful; I imagine you could get lost in them.

I've heard about the pennies in a can shaker too, and now I'm glad I never tried it. Of course, the only one who would have been traumatized by it is Lucy.
When Riley was only about 1 year old we tried rescuing a very senior dog named Sweetie. He wouldn't give her a moment's peace, always wanting her to play. We had been trying to find Riley a home, with no success, so we decided we had to give Sweetie back to the rescue for her own good.
Now, we have Chia.... no rescuing a senior, here!
I would absolutely adopt a senior dog. We rescued several and never had any problems.
That is very interesting about the can with pennies in it. Sweet photos. Skye dig early on and then she eventually stopped. It was part of her breed. They would dig rats out of holes.
Those are such sweet photos, they sure were adorable together.
