Adrenaline Rush

There we was just a-walkin' down the street, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
She looked good (looked good), she looked fine (looked fine)
Beau looked good, Beau looked fine and I nearly lost my mind/

When Walking Beau I scan for possums, cats, ducks, dogs, squirrels, rabbits and crazy drivers in cars.

We were 5 houses from home, when my scanning picked up what at first looked like a running dog,

It was fleeing like the devil was chasing it, coming right at us, about 8 houses away, same side of the road as we were and coming fast. 3 houses away it went up in the grass and I quick walked Beau to the other side and went up behind a car that was parked in the grass. I wanted to let it pass us.

As I stepped to the hood of the car, my heart was racing like an adrenaline rush, and a woman stepped out her front door and was shocked to see me and a big dog by her car door.

She stopped and I said Coyote and turned and pointed.
we watched as he went 4 more houses, and fled between two houses, I knew it was all fenced and we waited until he fled around the house and back out and headed back the way he came.
He was terrified, more than I was, I think.
The woman said who owns that dog? I said that is a coyote. She said NO, we have coyotes?
I said yes we do, and that is one right there.
She went to work, we followed a long way behind him and watched as he turned down another street.

Below at the bottom,  is a Florida Coyote and is close to what he looked like. he was running so fast he was a blur and my heart broke for him. Most houses are fenced and he was trying to get back home because they sleep during the day and run at night.

I came home and ask Google Girl to tell me what to do if we meet him again.
I found this link that has a video that shows what to do if you meet a dog.

I also found this info but forgot to save the link.

What to do and What Not to do, if you meet a coyote.

Don't Run, Do NOT scream

The first thing to do if you can is take cover behind something. A trash can, a car, anything to give it a chance to leave. I did that without knowing, it was instinct.

They only attack if something is wrong with them.
Haze the animal, by standing tall, act strong, stomp food and yell hyah

Do not hit the coyote.
If it does go to attack, grab anything you can find to bash it. Trash can, what ever.
they are fearful.

There are coyotes in 49 of our states, they are everywhere. The best thing to do is don't walk alone in the dark, they sleep during the day and hunt from dusk to dawn.

We have not seen him again. The last time I saw one was with Big Boy about 2 plus years ago.
Another neigbor said they live at the country club golf course, which is about 4 blocks from us.

Florida Coyote.

Florida coyote found on Internet, Above song using the lyrics from Dow Wah Diddy, by Manfred Mann.

As I typed There we were waling down the street this song POPPED in my head. Click on link to hear it. A blast from the past.

I remember that song very well, and was singing along. The poor coyote, poor you and Beau! Did Beau ever see it? Coyotes have learned to survive almost anywhere, but especially in the suburbs. They are extremely resourceful.

When Kaitlin, Torben and the pups sleep up on the land the pups are not allowed outside without a leash and a human after the sun goes down. It pays to be careful.

I agree, I feel sorry for the coyote you saw. What good instincts you have.

Are coyotes becoming like urban foxes in UK? Or are they more likely to attack you? Cats and foxes seem to get on OK if Tigger and local foxes (in our UK garden) are anything to go by. Dogs and foxes - different story. xxx Mr T

We also have boxes and has seen them twice but we were in the car when we saw them. Neither the foxes nor the coyotes will attack normally. They are afraid of us more afraid of us than we are of them. Bo was whimpering and hugging a little bit but not bad because he's so mild-mannered. Our other dogs would have been trying to pull me down

I am glad to hear that they take precautions like that! O can never be off leash anywhere except our fence backyard we live in a place where it's not safe. Our street is very busy

Wow that sounds very scary! But thanks for all the information about what to do in the event of meeting a coyote. Gail is now well prepared in the event that one of your Florida beasts somehow jumps on a ship, crosses the Atlantic, disembarks at Aberdeen Harbour and, hungry, starts prowling the streets of our city.
Toodle-oo!

I think you had a good sense of what to do. I wonder what they are finding to eat in your area....

Hello, Beau
It sounds like you were a good boy during this Coyote sighting. My grand-dogs would have went crazy. It is sad to see the wild animals running around neighborhoods, they need their own safe habitat. Take care, stay safe.
Hugs, enjoy your day!

I knew the song when I started reading and I sung that part of your post.
How scary for you and for the coyote. I hope he found his way back home.

Wow, a real-world adventure, Beau and mum... thank heavens for good instincts and positive thoughts towards that poor coyote, who, as you say, must have been in quite a state. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

That was some adrenaline rush indeed. I would have been scared too. Great advice on what to do and not to do. Thank you. Glad you and Beau were okay.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to handsome Beau. ♥

That sure was an exciting walk, especially for your mom! You are such a good boy to not try to chase that coyote, Beau. We have coyotes and foxes living around us, but we've never seen coyotes. We know they are around because we can hear them yipping at night.

Jumpin' coyotes...I would have probably needed to a new set of undies if I saw that while on my walk. Thank goodness you had somewhere to go. It must have been pretty early they usually don't come out after early morning.

We are having reports of coyotes here too closer to wooded areas though.
Hugs to you and Beau

I have seen a few coyotes while out for walks in local parks, luckily they have been more afraid of me than I was of them!

I don't know what I'd do if I had the pups with me!

Oh my word, what a fright! Glad you and Beau acted instinctively and didn't call undue attention to yourselves. At the same time, I'm feeling bad for that poor panicked baby. With all the rain, I wouldn't think drought conditions would be driving them down into the city streets (like in Phoenix). I'd no idea they existed in so many states. We live but a block from where we hear them howling at night. Funny, our girls don't seem to give them any mind. Still, I won't let them out at night except in the fenced back yard.

How scary! We used to have a lot of coyotes around here (until a wolf pack took up residence). We don't hear them nearly as often and I have not seen them along the river (we used to see them at least once a week). Our coyotes are really wild and afraid of people (and our barking dogs). You can tell when they are in the village by where the dogs are barking. I mostly worry about the cats, so they are NOT allowed out after supper and when Cinnamon goes out in the evening we watch her carefully. Your coyotes look just like ours!

Coyotes scare me.
I can just see you dancing down the street!

That's super scary, they are not out much in the daylight hours. Our Mom and Dad walk lots through the neighborhood and we do have coyotes. It always pays to be on full alert.

That makes my stomach so nervous. We had coyotes when we first moved her. We don't see them much anymore. It was scary with Skye, that's why we always leashed her in the yard at night because of them and owls. When we were in Europe there was an incident with one behind our open view fencing which we had woven wire through so Skye couldn't get out of the yard when she was younger. Anyway Amber and Dylan were in the garage and a coyote was out in the daylight. Their Charlie went to the fence and the coyote grabbed his face through the fence but because of the woven wire only got a little bit of hair pulled out. They were back and saw it happening. They said Skye was at the back of our house pacing, never went to the fence.
