Helicopters and Mama's Hearing

Hi, Mama asked me to tell you a crazy story about her hearing.  She said Beau, my hearing is almost as good as yours. Yours is better because you can hear Daddy's truck from many blocks away, I hear it from one block. She said Cats Have really good hearing also. HERE is a list of top 10 in the animal kingdom best hearing and we were shocked to read that Moths are number one and we did not know they can hear.
NOW I can tell you that Mama can hear
mosquito buzzing
Gnat's humming
water turned on, turned off, left running by the Daddy outside while she is reading.
noise from the high school 10 blocks away
7 screaming kids in a driveway 3 houses over and
last but not least she can hear curse words through 3 walls, 2 rooms away from her computer coming from the workshop.
Whoops! I was to tell you about the helicopter.
A few nights ago, the three of us were sleeping, it was 9:30 at night and a helicopter flew over the house.
It woke Mama up and she thought, on no someone is on the way to the ER.
We are under the hospital flight path
She closed her eyes, and it circled the house, it circled behind the house, it circled in front of the house.
She got out of bed and closed the windows and locked them because it was

our sheriff's helicopter. Not this one, they have two. the other one is smaller and only holds 2 people and it IS LOUD!
Louder than a mosquito after she goes to bed!
It is the chase down the perps' helicopter, and when it starts to wander loudly in the sky shining lights on the ground, something is GOING ON!
She could not go to sleep knowing it was in search mode and she heard 4 different sirens.
In the past it was a foot chase of burglars that broke in a home.
Once it was a police car chasing another car.
Daddy slept through the whole thing, I don't have a clue what it was or care, so I snored also!

The next morning, she sat in her chair drinking coffee and on the ever-present Chromebook and said to daddy,
The helicopter last night was looking for a missing person.
Daddy said What helicopter?  I thought it but did not say it. 🤣

Mama said "I am on the 911 call log for our county, at 9:28 the call came in from a home close to us that said Missing Person. at 9:30, 9:32, 9:34 and 9:35 Police cars were dispatched to assist."

Daddy said where are you getting all this. What's a 911 log? Who was missing? Why?

She said I don't know, I am getting this from 911 dispatch records. They only list what the call was for.
What????
PS we don't know who was missing or if they were found. We do know it was not a DOG cause they don't do helicopters for dogs. Just People.

You lead a more exciting life than we do! But Andy says his new electronics board seems to work so far. Does that count?

It is GOOD that they were not looking for a crook in your neighborhood! Maybe you will read it in the local paper, it will likely be in there.

It's so useful to have at least one person with good hearing in the house! Here that is Gail. We hope the missing person was found safe and well.

That's how Wade was, his hearing was excellent. He would start to ask me if I hear something and then he would say, of course you didn't hear it.
I think I would hear a helicopter flying over though and it would keep me awake.
I didn't know you could access a 911 call log.

Hello,

Cute photo of you and your Mama. My hearing is pretty good too, I wake up at the slightest sounds. I have never heard a helicopter searching for a missing person. The medivac is really loud, I have heard it often. Of course the grand-dogs hear everything and bark at everything too. HUGS, have a happy day!

crikey - everyone can hear a mosquito can't they? Mozzies at night make my humans start batting at things and swatting about with their hands. Helicopters fly by us at sea here - usually military ones.
F said they used them for searching and chasing baddies in London (and for monitoring traffic flow), and one night when she was working in a 'pub' on a boat on the Thames they were aware of the chase helicopter hovering nearby for ages. It turned out later that someone had found a murdered body on the shoreline of the Thames and the tide was coming in, so they had to use the helicopter floodlights to enable them to search the crime scene as fast as possible before the water covered it all up and washed any evidence away. She has another helicopter story too but we will save it for another day.

First things first...I love that first shot if your sweet face. Your daddy and Riger must have the same hearing. I am more like your mama.

Your mom has really good hearing for a person. We have lots of helicopters go over our house too and think it's because we are on a flight path for the medical helicopters.

Once upon a time I thought my hearing was my super power -- but like 'other things' it fizzled. Now I'm wondering how they(?) came to arrive at what animals have the best hearing. (Imagine, being paid to research?)

I've only seen/heard one police chopper with search lights employed -- gave me the chills. I agree with LLB, they should be called out for lost dogs, too.

That's an interesting list. Wow, what a night. Do you know if they found who they were looking for?
