I am busy as you can see so Mama My Blog is YOURS. Just for this post.
Mama here now, Beau is Busy
Beau's Daddy is German/Dutch
Paternal Dutch/Maternal German
Both sets of his grandparents came to America from those other countries as adults, to Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
Bob was born in 1936, his parents born in 1905 and his grandparents were all born in the mid to late 1880's. His Dad's father was a mean drunk and tried to run Bob's dad down with a horse and sulky and he moved out and rarely saw his parents after that.
Bob remembers two things about his grandfather.
He looked like a drunken Santa Claus when he saw him sitting on hay piled high on a wagon pulled by giant work horses.
He got drunk every night at the Whitehorse Hotel and the bartender put him on the wagon, slapped the horse on the butt and it took him home.
NOPE no British in there Gail, but LOTS OF Pennsylvania Cold Water, where even in Summer the lakes and pools were 70 or under and never got warm.
As for Me, even though my great grandparents were from Scotland/Ireland, my grandparents, parents and myself were all born in the HOT South and none of us inherited love of cold water.
Beau says he inherited no love of water at all.

Poor Bob as a little boy. Glad he turned out as good as he did!
how sad for your Bob...what hard times ;o(((((

... I think it was Bob's dad who had the hard time with his old Dutchy father if I read this correctly (think the first two commenters may have misread)... but anyway, the Dutch and the Germans are as hardy as the Brits when it comes to cold and wet! YAM xx
I'm guessing love of cold water is more a matter of upbringing than DNA but who knows?
Well Beau, please pass on thanks to your Mom for answering our question so comprehensively. Once again a beautiful theory slayed by ugly facts (to slightly misquote scientist Thomas Henry Huxley).
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Thanks for all that interesting info (did they do a DN test on you too, Beau?). #1 has not had a test done and it would be interesting to see if there is anything in there other than the Armenian that she knows about.
Woofs,
Ollie
Hello Beau,
I am part German/Dutch like your Daddy. Sounds like Bob's father had a tough time as a child. I am not a fan of cold water in a pool. Did you put your ball in your food bowl. It may be hard to eat that way. HUGS, have a happy day!
I'm born and raised in Pennsylvania, lived here all my life and will NEVER get in water as cold as Bob does. I'm part German so it must be the Dutch in him that makes him do that...lol
Laughing at Ann's reply.. I am not a fan of cold water either.
No cold for me either! Beau, tell your mama thanks for sharing this story with us!
Nice DNA on da DAD!!
I'm said to be a blend of Scottish, Irish and English..but in reality I'm probably mostly Southern American.
Hugs Cecilia
That was interesting reading about your dad's heritage. No matter where you come from, some people just like it colder than others. Your dad sure is from hearty stock, Beau.
You last line's a panic!
My heart hurts for the little boy that was Bob's father. Still, in those times no-one probably even raised an eyebrow. The old man must have been a tortured soul himself.
My maternal grandparents were Norwegian and Swedish -- probably why they didn't mind the harsh Minnesota winters. No idea if they ever went swimming in one of those 10,000 lakes tho.'
I'm sorry that Bob's grandfather was such a putz. Poor horse too. What a live they all had that were around him.
Beau isn't a water dog and neither was our Angel Little bit. She hated the water.
Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to handsome Beau. ♥
That was some DNA tale of the Beau Daddy!
Well that was interesting. Must be the Pennsylvania cold water! I don't know how he can do it.
I am sorry for Bob's beginning - I can relate to him - but how mice to have YOU in the end! Sweet.
I'm sorry about Bob's grandfather and wonder if a tough and difficult life turned him to drinks. Not an excuse, but it happens, I guess. And so awful for the rest of the family.
It's always fun to learn where people come from. You really are a Southern woman through and through, aren't you? Several generations born in America is pretty unusual, I believe.
What interesting information about you and Bob's beginnings. I'm told my parents were English (I'm adopted, just like my pups, LOL) but I despise getting in cold water, and just can't do it.
