Mama has had a few bad adventures with past dogs and Mama raccoons.
She always flips the flood lights on to Clear The Yard of Critters.
Daddy wanted the light off, he wanted to do the skinny dip in the dark. He said Well turn it off. She said we are watching something walking on the other side of the pool. She went out with flash light and found nothing. Flipped off the light and stepped out in the dark above.
I flew accross the yard, right where she saw movement, she was right behind me, daddy was splashing n the pool. I ran up and down the fence and over the the big tree, behind the tree, nose to the ground, suddenly I woofed one time and tried to climb the tree.
then i wandered behind the swing and mama followed,
Come Beau, lets go in the house, I lifted my nose from sniffing a dead baby possum.
so what was the big deal.
She shut me in the house and aimed the flashlight at the dead possun and just as she suspected the baby was standing up starting at her with eyes shooting white beams
She yelled look daddy, its a baby, no bigger than a kitten. Isn't he cute? Look Daddy and there I was trapped in the house and could not look.
These photos are mamas recreations because she got no photos, to dark and no camera.
this is what he looks like, she found it on the internet. We don't know it it was a mama or another baby that went up our tree. Mama loves possums, do you?

What a cool adventure! Yes, I like possums, and they rid the world of spiders too. I have never seen baby ones. So, even as a baby, he knew how to play possum! I hope it was his mommy that was up in the tree!
we sadly have no possums here... that's sad, we would love to see them at night (and the neighbors too lol)
That is another of those creatures that I've only seen while driving and it's running across the road in front of me. That picture of the baby one sure is cute. The one in your yard was at least old enough to know how to play dead for Beau.
Hello beau,
That sounds like an adventure, the critters should stay away from your yard.
If a baby was seen, the mama has to be nearby. Take care, hugs! Have a happy day!
Oh my goodness..it is adorable. I have never had that thought before. My niece in law has one of those small greenhouses. After one year. It was turned into a place for cats to sleep and eat..and there is a possum that eats and sleeps with them..I dont think it runs or anything when she goes in thete.
That is one cute critter. I wish we had possums in the UK.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS Gail saw a fox walk straight in front of her, bold as brass, in the park first thing this morning. I was busy looking at something else so didn't see it. I don't know why Gail's always telling folk that my observation skills and my peripheral vision are poor these days...

Oh yes, I like possums too - even when they got in my roof back in OZ. I mean, they gotta live somewhere, right? Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
We have a wee possum here too and we think the Mama must have died. It easy the leftover cat food before we bring it in for the night.
What a neat encounter! I was sure fooled, thinking it was dead.
A couple of years ago Tom stuck his head in the door and said, "Come on out, I want to show you something." He lifted the tall trash can in his shop and I feared he'd trapped a snake. But no, a baby opposum. How in the heck he/she got in there, we've no idea.
Full disclosure: City girl here thought it was a rat, which made him LOL. Then DIL shared all the GOOD they do, so he/she's welcome back anytime.
We're glad to hear the baby was just playing dead and wasn't really dead. Did it's mom come back for it? We guess if it wasn't there the next time you went out then it must have been found by it's mom.
It's funny, but now that I live in the country, I haven't seen a possum in 16 years, but when I lived in both Pasadena and Los Angeles, there were plenty of them. And they really can fool your dogs, playing dead. Have fooled me too. Good for them.
They are quite entertaining. Cute too.
Have a fabulous day and weekend, Beau. My best to your mom. ♥
BOL Beau they are experts at playing 'possum!!
Hugs cecilia
Ummm...no I can't say I'm crazy about possums. To me they are quite ugly and scary looking. I know they are good critter eradicators and have seen them trot across our fence. Just not my kind of enjoyable animal...Sorry....

Wow Beau, that was a grand adventure!! Jakey remembers back in the olden days when he lived in Texas and he and our Angel sissy Dory used to chase possums on the fence!! He said Mama used to get SOOOOO mad at them BOL!
xoxo,
Rosy

I gues this proves that ALL babies are cute, even ugly possums. Our Mom likes possums, especially when she found out how vulnerable they are to cold, (don't ask, we don't understand either) and ordered our un-fur bro to never hurt one. He has since come around and won't hurt one either. XOX Xena and Lucy (and Chia who has taken no such vow).
What fun! Mama did great getting those photos. Such a cute little guy! Yes I love possums. I find them adorable! Not many would I know but they are unique.
That one photo you created was scary to me! haha
How exciting! Cinnamon loves to go out in the yard at night and chase the deer, raccoons, bears, and other wildlife. Mom always has to "check furrst" AND make sure NO CATS escape at the same time. There can be quite the exciting activity! But we don't have possums.I wonder how they would taste....
Watch out, this time of year ... there are things that go bump in the night ... you never know!
So possums do play dead. We are glad the baby was alright in the end.
We've got rocky raccoons here, too. Never seen a possum though. PURRS
Wow! They can be very cute but they do bring fleas into the yard.
