Beau Story

UPDATE  We got pain pills for Beau from the vet to give with the Melosicam he is on once a day. Will try these and see what happens. He is not in pain unless he walks or runs, so is sleeping and eating. Gabapenten is the drug and is used for neuropathic chronic pain. the other uses are scary. If it sedates him to much will have to adjust. He is in no pain except for wanting to walk fast and play ball. Vet said he probably will not be able to chase balls again... I want to change vets but there is none to change to

sorry for the lengthy post, I am trying to cut them down to bite sized. and will, I promise

Beau and I were walking down our street and a big black SUV stopped, she said is he a Catahoula? I said yes, Catalhoula/Dane. She said did you get him at the Manatee Shelter? Yes I said. She said, that is what they are, Catahoula/Dane. My sister has his sister.

Her name is Ella Mae and they are identical. I told my sister I see Ella's brother walking every morning with his mama.

I am dying for more details but the traffic was horrendous and she had to move on.  We hope to see her again and find out more.

Like WHY was he at the shelter at 6 years old, Did they adopt Ella at that time, she did say they were litter mates. This video is on the FB page of Beau when he was left at the Shelter

This is a link to a video of Beau when he was left in Sept of 2019 at the Shelter. How could anyone do that.  Hope it will play for you. I could not download it because it belongs to the shelter. He was six then and is now 8.  He had at least 3 owners in one year, now he OWNS US furever and has forfor one year...

The video worked. Beau, you look so much younger and smaller in it, though it hasn't been that long. What will you do if you cannot chase balls? This will be awful. Do you think there are any vets in the area who would take new patients? What about a vet E.R.?

Crikey, Beau... I just can't imagine you not chasing balls... and I guess neither can mummy! I know she has told us before how difficult it is to locate a vet for a second opinion. I do hope the meds make a difference for you. How amazing to meet that lady and hear about your sister; she seemed to know quite a bit. Hope you get to meet her again. POTP extending your way for as long as you need it. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

Beau we hope that vet is not right at da ball front and the meds help you to feel much much better.... maybe you will see that lady again and you can stay in contact with your sistah? and maybe there is an idea? mostly litter mates are very similar and they have the solution?

Guddsy Beau - would you know your sister if you met her? Mr B reckons I have a brother (saw him one day near our house about 5 months after i had adopted my humans). I admit to nothing. We hope you get to fill in your family tree for the interest of your humans at least. xxx Mr T

No need to apologize for a long post. Sometimes a post requires more detail. This one was just the right length.
Beau must be pretty sad about not chasing a ball any more. I hope he does well on the medication.

Hello Beau,

I hope you are able to chase balls again, I hope the meds work. It is interesting to hear about your sister Ella Mae. Cute photo of you and your Mama. Take care, have a happy day!

I would love to know why no one else kept him...did they have to work and he did not cope, or what? He just has such appeal I don't know how anyone could get rid of him.

What a small world, Beau! I so hope you get to (re)meet your sister. Wouldn't that be a super photo op?

POTP-ing and prayers lifted you begin feeling better, sweet boy! I know momma's going to do her best to distract you with something different and fun!

We have our paws crossed that you feel better soon, Beau. It would be cool if you could meet your sister again. Walter has a brother that was adopted by someone on the other side of our county and we haven't seen him in almost 9 years. We wonder if they would recognize each other today.

The link didn't work for me, but I'm glad your mom found you. I too hope you feel better soon. Your mom and dad hope so too.

Have a woof woof day and rest of the week, Beau. My best to your peeps. ♥

Sandra - this doesn't seem like a good post from what I am reading - but he does seem happy - and God gave him a great family. I watched the video - he's a beauty. Oh how we love our fur babies.

Bertie has been on a conservative dose of Gabapentin for over five months now - in his case to ease the discomfort his bladder tumour causes when he pees. I think it has helped although it's a bit hard to tell. What I am sure of is that there has been no sign of two of the relatively commonly reported side effects, sedation and wobbliness on walking. I hope it works well for Beau.
Cheers, Gail.

Beau my dear sweet boy. Talk about timing for you and Mom to speak the a lady who knows where your sister Ella lives.
I send all kinds of healing thoughts that the new meds will put a spring back in your get-along for maybe a ball or two roll gently so that you can chase them with ease
Hugs Cecilia

It's just awful what happens with animals. So glad he and you found each other. A forever home, forever love.

I hope the medication helps him. That is very interesting about the woman whose sister has his sister. I often wonder why people get rid of their dogs. That video of Beau is so cute.
