Storm Hidey Hole

For the past 7 days, we have had thunderstorms every single day, some early morning some at bed time. Big is most comfy and stops whining if Daddy and Mommy sit on the sofa, and he goes in between the sofa and the footstool. Daddy puts his legs on the footstool you see here, and there he stays unless one of us gets up.... Daddy put his legs up on the sofa AFTER the storm and Mommy stood up and snapped this JUST FOR YOU..

Big is so much better than he was during storms. I read up on how to act when he is whimpering and whining. They  said act normal, don't coddle, don't talk baby talk, feed treats, do fun things. HA on that part.. We ate a meal at the counter, he laid under my legs and did take tidbits while it thundered. I stopped coddling and talking to him, and we turned the TV louder .

Unless one of us gets up.....he follows whomever gets up whimpering until we sit down again.

When the storms come while we are asleep, like this mother of all storms Wed night, Dad sleeps on, Momma sits on sofa, Big wedges in, Momma drapes a blanket over her legs that hangs down and makes a cave, and keep rubbing off and on with her foot... one hour we waited.
WE GOT THIS!   Arty, Rosy and Jakey, does this fit for nature Friday?

Now I know how to treat Sim. We have had storms every day for the last week as well. They scare him to death, and he slinks around with his butt to the floor, then runs to the basement. If he is scared enough, he will not even eat treats. A perfect picture of the super hidey hole!

I had a dog who was like that when we had thunder storms. He would pant instead of whine though and he would get as close to you as he possibly could. He never started doing that until he was older. If I woke up in the middle of the night with the dog laying on top of me and he was panting like crazy I knew we were about to get a storm.

Angel Jade would retaliate and bark at the storm. Then the whole pace and pant thing. No matter that I sat still and pretended everything was normal, it was the one thing I could never quite manage with her. I used to envy other folks whose dogs were unbothered by storms. YAM xx

Hello,

MY Golden Daisy would hide in the closet during a thunder storm. We had some dogs that were not bother at all by the thunder. I guess some dogs have more sensitive ears and hearing. Have a happy day!

Glad he finds comfort near you. Skye will hide under the bed. We don't get many thunder storms and fireworks don't seem to bother her either but wrinkle a bag of potato chips and she is terrified!

Big, it's great you found your comfort spot during the thunderstorms. We agree that some are really loud and scary, but you have mom and dad there to protect you. Thanks for the share. Have a wonderful weekend.

We'd no sooner put away the mower and weed whacker a bit ago when the thunder began and our skies opened wide. Thank goodness, Alabama's idea of lightening isn't anything like Florida. That image from Indian Rocks is about the worst thing I've seen... chills!
Love how Big is growing a little more comfortable. Y'all are his rock! That's a genius idea about creating a cave from the blanket.

Storms are a part of Mother Nature even if we don't like them! Glad BB can find a place he feels safe--and his pack is close. That lightning was incredible! We rarely get storms.

What you said is exactly what I've learned too. The worst thing is ro say it's ok, which is usually the first thing we all want to say, because they take that as meaning it's ok to be out of their minds afraid. Good job on the conditioning.

BB, sorry you guys have had such terrible storms!!! I am sure that is no fun at all!!! We hardly ever gets thunderstorms, and when we do, they are nothin' like you guys have to deal with! I thinks I would do the same as you BB. Butts don't worry, I thinks every pup has something that scares them. Take me, for example, I FREAKED OUT today cause Gpa came overs, and was playin' with some electronic device that beeped. he was fiddlin' with it forevers, and the beepin' went on and on and I FREAKED out! I don't likes beepin'! I hid under the kitchen table ~ not safe enough. Went and stared at Ma for help, she didn't hear the beepin' and didn't help at all!! so I tried to gets under the puter table, and that is when she knew SOMETHING was up. She FINALLY investigated, and saw Gpa fiddlin' with the electronic thingie, and asked if it beeped. yes he said. OH, that's it! I TOLD HER! Sky is falling and the beepin is the precursor!!!!! I just knows it! she laughed at me! the nerves. Anyhu, I gets it. Keep close to your peeps, and everythings will be just fine
Kisses,
Ruby ♥

Oh, sweet Big your mama and dad love you so much and take such good care of you. Your fraidy hole looks somewhat like Chancy's He lays on the rug between the loveseat and bookcase, I sit on the loveseat and when I get up he goes with me wanting me to sit back down. Stay safe during all the thunder boomers and lightening. Hugs and nose kisses

I had a collie that nothing helped....then I had a part collie that was fine with storms but hated when just the wind howled. I had to sleep on the couch then...she would lay right beside the couch and be fine...but if i tried to stay in bed she paced.
