This is ME, Mama's fifth Rescue dog since 1986. Mama rescued Max, at age 12 hours old, Baby at 10 month, Cooper at 7 yrs, Jake from the street at 4 months old, and now ME at 7 years old.
This is Mama's thoughts, she wants me to pass on to you. 3 of Mamas rescues came from shelters. Shelters need help. They need volunteers, money, food, blankets. Most shelters have a list of needs on their website.
Find a shelter, if you can save a dog or cat, do that. If you can volunteer do that also. If you can't do either, do what Mama Did.
Mama follows our local shelters on FaceBook, the put out their needs. Yesterday this was the list that the shelter i came from put on FB.
The page said we are at max capacity, we have 159 dogs and 195 cats. Some of the cats are ill. Please donate if you can.
- Towels
- Blankets
- Dawn Dishsoap
- Puppy pee pads
- Newspaper
- Baby food, yes human food. This is really helpful for our sickly kittens who don't want to eat
My Mama went to Amazon Prime and ordered 12 jars of chicken baby food, 100 pee pads and 2 gallons of Dawn, they will be delivered to the shelter today.... That is how easy it is to help...
Mama's heart hurts when she remembers how long I was there. 3 dogs that were adopted when I was, 9 months ago, have been returned. one for chasing cats, one for being BORING, really? one with no reason and one was found a stray in another county...

I hope the rescues get the help and items they need. I thought our local rescues were having a clear the shelter day with free adoptions.

Your mama has a good heart. I never ever even thought about doing something like that. I have worked at a shelter tho.
It makes me angry when I hear of people who buy dogs from pet stores or breeders. We can save a life! Max was 12 hours old?? That would make a fabulous post!! Our vet told us long ago that cats love baby food, and that is a good way to get medicine into them.
What a great post of helping shelters, we donate and try to raise money each October with our "No Tricks, Just Treats for Shelters" Halloween weekend each October.
We usually take our old sheets and towels to the shelter and dog toys in good condition. There are so many ways you can help.

Your mamma is a good person to help out the shelter. That must be a really big shelter to have all those cats and dogs. So sad that other dogs that were adopted at the same time you were have been returned. They didn't get lucky like you did BB.
O BB your mommy deserves a big old wet slobber kiss!
My ma takes the old blankets from the nursing home
and drops them off. It's for a good cause.

A-amen!!! Those are great ideas … using Facebook and having Amazon deliver directly to the shelter. I've often wondered why used mattresses couldn't be accepted, as well. So many wind up in landfills.
It hurts my heart too to think that dogs are returned to shelter for such stupid reasons. Being BORING!? Seriously? And dogs chase cats. What did they think they were adopting, a chipmunk?
So today I became an official groomer for our local Humane Society. I offered free of charge 2 grooms a month. Not much, but I figure it will help, and fits into my schedule.
Like you, at the shelter one always finds a gem of a pet. Our gr-daughters have Lucy. Sometimes we visit them just to see Lucy.
