Questionable Behavior

Big Boy is eating his dry dog food. He eats whatever we put in the bowl. The thing is, he will not drink water out of the bowl. He goes outside to a plastic tub and drinks. I placed a butter tub beside the water inside and he drinks it fine.

I tried putting the metal bowl on the floor, nope, just water out of the plastic. I moved the plastic, he waited to go outside to get water. Now I am looking for a plastic bowl to fit in the hole. for now he drinks from a butter tub.

UPDATE: I created this post 3 days ago. Today Our Good Boy's Gone Bad. While we were sitting by the pool, he asked to come in. I got to hot, which was a good thing, came in to find him in the middle of the living room carpet EATING the Bag of Frozen Bread I had put on the counter to thaw. He had gobbled about 6 slices, which is about half of the 3.,78 cents loaf.    I hope bread doesn't make him sick.... he drank a gallon of water out of the butter tub, and now I have visions of him exploding.

He should be fine. Dogs eat all kinds of things more awful than this. Maybe he does want his water on the floor. Why don't you try taking the metal bowl out of the holder, and put it on the floor? That would answer this question of whether it's the bowl or the height! It looks like the bowls are the perfect height for him! We have these same metal bowls for Simba, but he will only drink out of one,and not the other.

Ginny has a good idea about putting the metal bowl on the floor to see if he'll drink out of it. I had a dog who would only drink out of the toilet even though there was a bowl of water on the floor for him.
I've also had dogs who have eaten much more and much worse than the 6 slices of bread BB nabbed. I had a dog a long time ago who would always steal things off the counter.

...and herein may lie the clue as to his having ended up in care! If he is a counter surfer - not difficult at his height - you will need to learn, as you would with toddlers, to 'proof' the area. Defrost items inside the oven or a cupboard. Keep all other items at the back wall of the counter. BB may be one of those dogs who will like puzzles; there are various toys (famous being the Kong) into which you can place treats or peanut butter. There are also 'slow eat' bowls with ridges in, which make the gobbler dogs have to work harder to get their meals. It not only aids their digestion but stimulates their brain - a bit of 'hunt and prey' kind of thing. As to the water, Ginny's suggestion is sound, but I know Jade always preferred the large icecream tub to drink her water from - and there maybe something in warmer water. It is actually unhealthy for we humans also, to drink chilled water, but so many will still do it! YAM xx

Hello, he may like the bowl of water on the floor. I wouldn't think the bread is not that bad, was the plastic eaten too? He must be a hungry dog.

Oh my word, that's funny! Well, not funny-funny; just a vision. Busted! I hope by the time you see this, BB is feeling better and pooping? Let us know, please?

OK, out of left field, a thought: When management bought everyone a YETI cup last year, I couldn't stand to drink water from it because of its metallic 'tinney' taste. Of course there was nothing wrong with the cup itself - but unlike a porcelain or plastic cup - I couldn't bear to drink water from it.

I must admit to smiling just a tad. B.B. is 1/8 cat. LOL
As for the water maybe he can't see in int the stainless steel
Maybe a colored bowl would work so he can see there is something in the bowl.

I certainly hope he is okay after eating all that bread. The is very strange about the water bowl.

I like th idea of putting the metal bowl on the floor to see if he drinks from it. Dogs are unpredictable as to how they insist that their water be given to them. As for the bread, I think that he'll be okay... but he might get.a mildly upset tummy from eating something that he's not used to.
