Big Boy BIG

Can you see why I am called BIG Boy? Mama and Daddy love every oz of my 65 lbs.
I hear them discussing how to feed me, dry or with water. The found out I don't like water in my dry dog food, like my angel brother Jake did. Took them 3 days to figure it out.

Would you share your feeding schedules for canines?

I don't gobble food and I don't eat people food, they are still learning just what to do and not to do.
A nice blog lady at Romping and Rolling in the Rockies, told Mama to use Cheerios as training treats and I LOVE THEM. Visit her blog if you love dogs and wonderful wildlife photos.

Mama would say Sit, and I always do. Then she says Big Boy and when I look at her I get a cheerio. When I look away, she says Big boy and when I look I get a cheerio.
Day 3 of twice a day 10 cheerios and now I look at Mama and Daddy every time they say my name.

My name WAS Gary, and now know my name is Big Boy.

PS! I still get to do the cheerio training each day. I am Walking Like A Gentleman on Day 7

That is funny, because you use Cheerios on kids, too. I was wondering how the name change would work, after five years. This is brilliant!!! Have you tried him on canned dog food?

P.S. You are the Dog Whisperer, and armed with breakfast cereal.

Awe that is so fantastic. What a fast learner and for tasty treats too.

I've heard of using cheerios for training or just as a treat. Gibbs gets dry food in the morning before I head off for work and then when I eat dinner he gets some canned food.
Big Boy is doing well in his training and he's adjusting quickly to his new home.

What a handsome dog. I have never heard of cheerios as a training tool, good to know. I mix a good quality canned food (Wellness) with dry food for my pack of four dogs.

BigBoy sure is handsome! He looks like such a wonderful dog!!!

You can help him to like the camera by tossing him Cheerios one at a time while you point it at him. My dogs come running when they hear me pick up my camera due to the treats that they get when I am using it!

We feed twice per day - morning and evening. We actually vary the time a bit to keep the dogs from getting pushy around a certain time. For Shyla, we feed dry dog food with water. R gets homemade food (because he was poisoned by the dog food recall a while ago - we have ptsd from that).

Thanks so much for the mention!

I'm motivated to make a change in Lucy's treats. She tends to ask to go outside more often than necessary just to get a treat. So maybe her regular three times a day and a cheerio the remaining. I like it.

I once read that cats will control their consumption; dogs won't. Don't know if its true but we only feed Lucy twice a day (dry food) and she is a happy healthy 11yr old. But believe you me she can read the clock and starts her 'time for supper' routine around 4 p.m. everyday.

He reminds me of our male lab we had. Big and thick like a football player. All of our dogs have been self feeding. They do stop when they are full if you start when they are puppies. I fill Skye's bowl each morning. She normally doesn't eat until later in the day. I know Roxy is eating twice a day. Cheerios are a great idea. I'm glad you are walking like a gentlemen. Skye pulls Mark down the street because he lets her!

That's very clever to use a cheerio. Great photos of Big Boy. Happy to hear he is settling in so happily, but then he knows he is greatly loved :)

I have now read all the Big boy posts and I am so happy for you. He is the perfect fit. Jake's picture is beautiful. Samson gets special food, three times a day, due to his issues, which include his stomach. Of course this means Faith gets fed three times a day also. They get Zukes for treats, very small pieces, good for training. But Cheerios sound good too, I may try that. They also get baby carrots for treats. And they love their baby carrots. Once I forgot an opened one pound bag on the counter and when I came back Samson had eaten most of it. He didn't even get sick.

Those Cheerios are certainly making you shiny! We never thought of using them...and we read 'Rockies'. We always have a grain-free kibble base. But we raw chicken legs on Monday, one-sixth of a can of grain-free wet food as a topper on Tues and Wed, raw chicken on Thurs, Sardines in oil on Friday and on the weekend, cooked chicken gizzards or hearts in gravy. We love ALL food. SHE calls us Stomach Hounds. (Oh, the schedule is so SHE can remember what to feed us.)

Cheerios? That's a great idea! I love how you narrated his lesson … like a visual!
Our girls are on the self-feed program. Each have their own bowls (communal water) filled fresh with dry Royal Canin grain-free each morning. I check throughout the day for drool or other yuk and might zap it for a few seconds in the microwave. Macie prefers eating in the morning; Grace at night.

We did the same kind of training with our pups and the camera...It really helps when they get excited when the camera comes out!

I usually get breakfast at around 7:30-8:00, usually in my crate when Momma goes to work. Then I get dinner at about 6pm, after Momma gets home and changes and we have our walk and some snuggles. I get dry food with a little bit of wet food or an egg mixed in. Yum yum, I LOVE eggs!

Can you share your "walk like a gentleman" tips? I think that sounds like Momma's "walk nice," and it's sooooooooo hard!! There's just so much exciting ahead, why slow down and not pull Momma off her feet?

I had never heard of using Cheerios for training. You are doing really well with your training and I think Big Boy fits you much better than Gary. Keep enjoying those Cheerios and learning. Hugs and nose kisses
